The Salvation Army Southwest Division Leadership

Lt. Colonel Charles "Chuck" Fowler and Lt. Colonel Shari Fowler are the leaders of The Salvation Army Southwest Division, which includes nearly 60 units that serve Arizona, New Mexico and Southern Nevada and has been helping neighbors in need overcome poverty and economic hardships for more than 150 years.

Colonel Chuck, Divisional Commander, oversees services that provide food for the hungry, shelter and clothing for people experiencing homelessness, rent and utilities assistance, disaster relief, respite from extreme weather conditions, senior activity and outreach, adult rehabilitation, and opportunities for under-resourced children.

Colonel Shari, Divisional Director of Women's Ministries & Divisional Secretary for Program, manages life-changing programs like Pathway of Hope – which helps people remove barriers, identify resources, break generational poverty, and build skills leading to self-sufficiency – and recreational, spiritual and holiday programs that help build community and provide health and wellness activities and opportunities for social interaction and character building.

Colonels Fowler have been officers in The Salvation Army for more than 30 years, commissioned in 1992 in the “Followers of Jesus” session of cadets. They have served in 14 different appointments in 5 different states and in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. They also spent 15 years in recovery ministry.

Having married right after high school, they headed off to start college only to be interrupted a year later with a clear call from God to become Salvation Army officers. Each of them later returned to finish their college experience earning bachelor’s degrees and then going on to earn master’s degrees, Colonel Chuck in business administration and Colonel Shari in counseling.

At The Salvation Army, you make our good works possible for the most people in the most need.
